Class Log: Natural Taijutsu

Posted in Budo Taijutsu on October 21, 2008 by Anthony Lucas

This past friday we visited some portions of the Ten ryaku no maki in terms of ukemi – Zenpo, Koho to warm up and look at various ways of safely falling in any event. I wanted to review the friday prior material which was a quick look at – osoto gake, osoto garuma, osoto gari and hiza garuma. We then looked into some Jin ryaku no maki techniques – koyoku and setsu yaku.

Martial arts of distance is the most important in terms of practicing distance, angling and timing. I’ve since notice everyones DAT is different. The right distance for me might not be the right distance for a smaller or bigger person. With that said, I stressed the importance of everyone moving at their own pace and make their own self assessments. From this sort of individual independence I can easily be of help. This approach & method works for me.

Usually towards the end of class I usually discuss specific topis or show some stuff I learned from training or just ask if anyone has any questions on anything we’ve done. The friday prior before this class I demostrated – keri sukui and ashi dome. This past friday we looked at teki ori from a grab and punch.

One of my favorite quotes in closing – “A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write and a martial artist must practice/train if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself”.

Note: Comments are for people who either wish to express an opinion or simply argue. I personally feel such matters useless. Political differences never does any good.

Class Log: Ten Chi Jin Study w/ Ninpo Feeling

Posted in Budo Taijutsu on October 1, 2008 by Anthony Lucas

Update from friday past –

Class started at our usual time 7pm with the fashion bow.  We started with some material from the ten ryaku no maki – basic rolls in various directions. I spoke about the importance of taking it slow, breathing correctly while rolling, using the legs  and squat close to the floor. The roll was to be done from right shoulder to left hip and vice versa in regards to zenpo kaiten and koho kaiten. Following this I spoke briefly about hiken juroppo (16 secret fist) – did’nt get into the fist much other then to show some body strikes, etc. We did some focus mit training (jodan tsuki) for precision strikes at the target using mainly the legs from kamae. Power was not the point nor should it be until good form is established and constant practice develops strenght as flexibility thus power will be found.

Chi ryaku no maki – basically we dabbed a bit in this section of the book. Tehodoki, Oya goroshi-ko goroshi, etc. Can’t remember right now alot of the stuff we covered from this section. That’s why its good if you’re going to review the training its best to do it soon as possible.

Most importantly the class was long and tiring. A great deal of information was covered. Everyone did very well.

I leave you with another of my favorite quotes – ” Given enough time, any man may master the physical. With enough knowledge, any man may become wise. It is the true warrior who can master both…..and surpass the result.”

Train safe and sound -
